Eating disorders affect nearly 30 million people in the United States yet less than 20 percent of those individuals will ever receive treatment during their lifetime. This disparity is largely due to the multiple barriers to eating disorder treatment that exist, the most significant barrier being financial.
‘Ai Pono Foundation offers a Patient Assistance Program in support of individuals with eating disorders who are struggling to access treatment due to financial challenges.
The program aims to provide financial support to individuals seeking eating disorder treatment who are facing financial barriers to the appropriate level of care.
The program is designed to alleviate financial stress and ensure continued access to necessary care.
Preference for the program participation will be given to Hawaii residents.
Each application undergoes a thorough review to ensure eligibility and assess the level of need.
A clinical reference or letter of support from the applicant's therapist or treatment team is recommended.
The conflict of interest policy is reviewed by the Board to maintain transparency and fairness to all applicants.
The applicant must show a commitment to their treatment plan as recommended by their treatment team.
The Board follows an equity-based model, using The Green Bottle Sliding Scale Method to determine the level of need.
